The Benefits of Vitamin A

 In Blog

retinolDead Sea Moringa is known for its high concentrations of a variety of vitamins and minerals. One of those vitamins is vitamin A. Gram for gram, Dead Sea Moringa contains four times the amount of vitamin A found in carrots, which are essentially the “poster child” for foods high in vitamin A.

But what exactly are the benefits of vitamin A? Here are a few:

Perhaps the most well-known benefit of Vitamin A is that it promotes good eyesight. Also known as retinol, Vitamin A helps eyes to adjust to changes in light when you come in from outside and keeps the mucous membranes, skin and eyes moist.

Vitamin A can also be converted from beta-carotene found in plants (like carrots and moringa). The antioxidant properties found in the vitamin neutralize a lot of the free radicals found in the body, which cause cellular and tissue damage.

Vitamin A also plays an important role in the growth of bones, reproduction and overall immune system health. Because it improves the health of skin and mucous membranes, it also helps to repel viruses in a more effective manner.

There has been some research from various scientific studies suggesting beta-carotene, the precursor for vitamin A, can also help people who suffer from Coronary Artery Disease. The American Heart Association is still performing studies about this issue and does not yet recommend beta-carotene supplements as an official treatment, but early indications from some studies show positive results.

There are health risks associated with over consumption of any vitamin, but getting a healthy level of vitamin A is extremely important. Women are recommended to consume 800 mcg and men are recommended to consume 1000 mcg of vitamin A every day.

While vitamin A deficiencies are rare, they are serious when they occur. They can cause night blindness, inflammation of the eyes, diarrhea and a variety of other health problems.
